What Parties Expect from Labor Arbitrators Today: Practical Feedback, Expectations, and the Future of Arbitration

Date: October 30th, 2026

Location: Online via Zoom

Time: 11:00 am – 12:00 pm (Central Time)

What are parties and advocates looking for from labor arbitrators today, and how should arbitrators prepare for what comes next?

This program will bring together perspectives from the American Arbitration Association and the National Academy of Arbitrators to explore current expectations and emerging issues in labor arbitration.

The discussion will begin with practical feedback from labor advocates based on their arbitration experiences, including responsiveness, timeliness of awards, understanding of labor hearings, arbitrator selection, and the backgrounds advocates consider when choosing an arbitrator.

The conversation will then turn to AI in arbitral practice. Panelists will discuss the NAA’s perspective on AI use by labor arbitrators, ways AI may support an arbitrator’s work, and the importance of preserving independent judgment. The program will also address confidentiality, accuracy, transparency, and professional responsibility.

Designed for experienced and newer labor arbitrators, the session will provide practical insight into what advocates value today while exploring how technology may shape arbitral practice.
