Synopsis: Grievance arbitration is a system in which the parties retain the ultimate authority to select a judge whose authority is limited to the dispute at hand. An arbitrator who exercises that limited authority capably and responsibly will be called upon again. If the authority is abused, the arbitrator will not serve again. In that way, the parties curb abuses of authority.
